Music Against Borders recognises the importance of creativity and culture in empowering people disenfranchised by war, poverty and the EU immigration system. The borders we aim to traverse are not just physical sanctions placed on free movement, but social and cultural boundaries imposed by the proliferation of xenophobic and racist ideas in relation to migration. It is human-to-human contact and cultural exchange that breaks down these borders and also has the potential to heal some of the damage caused by the traumatic experiences involved in the journeys of many migrants.

Started in July 2015, Music Against Borders began as a response to a call out from activists on the ground in Calais for musical instruments. Since then we have been orgainsing a national instrument donation program, through which unwanted instruments can find a new pair of hands. These donations will be taken over to the jungle and will be both donated to musicians living there and also used to facilitate a series of workshops so migrants can share their music and learn new skills. If you'd like to find out more and make a donation visit our crowdfunding page: https://www.chuffed.org/project/musicagainstborders

But Solidarity is not just about donating!

Music Against Borders is committed to providing longer-term support to migrants struggling to find a better life in the face of the brutal EU immigration system. We believe that music has the power to extend beyond 'aid' and can provide a whole host of therapeutic, social, creative and economic benefits to migrants in varied situations - from those in camps like the jungle, to those caught up in the callous bureaucracy of the asylum system, to those held in barbaric and inhumane immigration detention centres.
